We have a release coming out soon on Halo of Flies Records. Titled "Embracing the Shroud of a Blackened Sky" it is on vinyl and features our one incredibly long song, which spans both sides of the record. We will have a link posted here soon for purchase. The record will have a 12 page booklet included with it as well as a 24" x 36" poster with incredible art by the our really good friend Matt Loomis. (Check out his art at thehandofloom.com)

The CD version of this album will hopefully be out soon as we are currently talking to a few labels about its release. This edition will have both the 30 minute song as well as another 15 minute song titled koschei and possibly the songs for the two splits(with nux vomica and atta of the mad axe men) that we have released.

Hopefully we will have some tour news as well.

We are also going to be playing at Hunting Parties fest again this year with the Lethe and the almighty OROKU, who are getting back together for another reunion show. We can hardly wait! So if you are in the Pacific Northwest (particularly seattle) on Aug 1st come out to chop suey and be prepared for a great time.

We have a bunch of shows coming up in march. Some in the bay area with nanda devi and our friends armed for apocalypse. Come to one or more if you can.

 

Also the makai has some side projects that will be having shows in march as well. Jesse and Ians powerviolence punk attack band Black Hole of Calcutta is playing on march 6th and Zeke and Brandons new doom/ sludge band Amarok is having their first show, with our good friends nux vomica on march 2nd at monstros pizza.

NEWS: We have recently finished recording two new songs with Chris Common at the red room in seattle. We feel they turned out sounding great. Now the label hunt begins (interested parties please get in touch). For two unmastered snippets of the new songs check out our myspace page. We are currently writting a new full length and making big tour plans. So if you would like us to come to your area in 2010 let us know and we will do our best to make it happen. Oh and i will try and update this a lot more frequently from now on.

NEWS: So this is several months late, but the 10" split with Nux Vomica is in.  Get it at Dysphoria Distro.  Also, we're planning on recording some new material with Chris Common in Seattle in early January.  We'll be recording a brand new 28-minute song.  We'll put a sample up on our MySpace once its done.

VINYL: The Makai/Attack of the Mad Axeman split is in.  This is a co-release by De Rok (USA), Flowerviolence (Germany), Subject to Suffering (USA) and Institut Fuer Mentale Hygiene (Germany).  Get copies locally from us or from one of the aformentioned labels through mailorder.

VINYL: The recording and mixing for the new tracks are done, so expect some vinyl shortly.

NEWS:

We're currently in the studio working on two new tracks which are going to be released on Splits this summer.  The first one is with Attack of the Mad Axeman from Germany, which will come out on Flower Violence (europe) and De Rok (USA) records.  The second is with Nux Vomica from Portland.  We're pretty stoked about the way the recordings are coming out... stay tuned, we'll probably upload one of them to MySpace once we finish tracking the vocals.

IN OTHER NEWS:

We're taking a break from playing shows for the most part to focus on writing and recording new material.  The plan is to have a new full length early next year.  Our songs are getting pretty crazy these days so it takes us a long time to write new material.  In any case, it will be worth the wait, we promise.

First, our vinyl 12" of The End of All You Know is coming out in February.  Finally!  Also, this summer we'll be releasing two split records - one with Nux Vomica, one with Samothrace.  More details on that later.

Next up, we got a couple of bad-ass shows coming up.  These will be our first shows in 5 months.

This past Monday we had our CD release show with Intronaut, Book of Black Earth and La Fin Du Monde and it was fucking rad. Thanks so much to everyone for coming out and to Intronaut and Book of Black Earth for coming through Chico, you guys are amazing. This was one of the best turnouts we've ever had in Chico, not to mention on a Monday night. Fantastic.

We played the Emissions from the Monolith festival in Austin, Texas this past weekend and had a blast.  We got to hang out for the whole fest and play with and see some pretty amazing bands like Kylesa, Middian, Samothrace, Rwake, Lord By Fire, Indian, Weedeater, Black Cobra, Dead Bird, Skeleton Witch, etc.  We got to hang out with a lot of great friends and meet a lot of new people; thanks so much to Therin for letting us crash at his house for four days and for partying down until 5 am every night with us.  Thanks Austin, you fucking rock.

We're heading out on tour for 45 days starting next Friday. Check the shows page to see where we're playing. Tonight we're playing a tour benefit show at Monstro's Pizza, along with our friend PAWNS (who are also heading out on tour soon), Ill Gotten Gainz and Horror Horror Horror.

Additionally, we'll have copies of our new CD The End of All You Know available for sale on tour before it comes out on July 31st. So come to the shows and get this CD early!

The Makai signs to Seventh Rule Recordings. Here's the press release:

Seventh Rule Recordings welcomes The Makai to their heavy hitting roster. The Makai, from Chico, California will release their first full length The End of All You Know on July 31, 2007 on Seventh Rule Recordings. The album is 10 tracks of futility in flames, of dread within desire, of some of the best metal you may ever commit your ear to.

The End Of All You Know was recorded at The Black Lodge in Chico, CA and mastered by Colin Jordan (Ministry, RWAKE, Minsk) at The Boiler Room in Chicago.

Forming roughly three years ago, The Makai immediately found an audience within the booming punk rock and metal scene in Chico. Having embarked on an American tour in the summer of 2006, which brought them to two-thirds of the country, the band enjoyed opening slots for such fabled metal groups as Dillinger Escape Plan, High on Fire and Goatwhore. In early 2006, The Makai were awarded a Cammie when they were voted Critic's Choice for Best Local Band by the Chico News & Review, while guitarist Zeke Rogers was crowned Local Badass via his unwavering support and dedication to Northern California music and community. (Rogers is the founder of the local rock show database Chicolist.com, as well as having been a member and founder of many successful Northern California bands.)

The Makai are gearing up for an epic six week summer tour, starting out playing alongside Seventh Rule label-mates Indian, at this year's Emissions from the Monolith Festival at Emo's in Austin, TX May 24-27.
